I'm going to put one rumor here to rest.

The name on the title has NOTHING to do with insurance rates. Nothing.

If you have three drivers in the house and three cars, one person will be listed as a primary driver on each car. If you have two cars and three people driving, that is the situation where someone can be listed as occasional use. Think about it. No insurance company is going to see four cars for four people and say "oh yeah, I don't think this kid is the primary driver on any of them... someone just has two cars for their own use".

Your best bet would be to move your entire family to a new company. Tell them your mother and father are on the S and the family's next most expensive car. Tell them you are on the least expensive car. All household members are insured to drive all household vehicles, so this is perfectly fine.

The S2000 is a cool car and I do enjoy it but would I be willing to make the kind of sacrafices that this kid is going to have to make in order to own one? NO WAY.
Its a freakin car that is deprecating as I write this post. If he is having second thoughts now imagine the level of buyers remorse he's gonna feel in 6 months.\

Getting this car was a huge mistake.

You're parents didn't try to talk you out of this??? I agree we shouldn't go off on this kid too much, he's only 18. I know I did some some things when I was 18 too.
Of course if I ever considered mortgaging my future by obligating myself to huge car\insurance payments for 3 years my parents would have set me straight. Playing games with insurance companies is no solution.

Go back to the dealer and do whatever it takes to get out of this deal. Take your loss and move on. This will be an expensive learning experience but not nearly as expensive a learning experience as it would be if you tried to keep it. Ask yourself where you want to be in 5 to 10 years. Would you be able to acheive your goals while shouldering this huge burden?

Come on guys! You really think the dealer is going to let him off the hook? I think he might as well enjoy the car for a few months before trying to get out of the lease unless there is some time limited backout clause... It could be ok and it's only for 3 years right?

I figure if you're going to end up taking a $3,000 dollar loss for ending the lease early, you might as well get something out of it and have at least 1 good summer...

As for Josh, I did not direct my post toward you, so keep your smart ass comments to yourself.
You tell an 18 year old to go ahead and ruin his credit, and I respond and say he shouldn't because building GOOD credit is very important, even at such a young age.. and that makes me a smart ass? Your advice (if you even want to call it that) sucked, get over it.

If you love the car keep it. Work two extra days a month for 60 dollars a day and bingo you have your extra money. An extra 120 a month is not much. I bet you could save taht by not drinking starbucks or drinking store brand soda instead of name brands or taking your lunch to work. Mow your neighbors lawn. 120 is an easy find.

Wow, that was horrible advice.
You can't really build credit if you can't make the payments.

I was being realistic. The post was not directed toward you.

Keep the car and learn a hard lesson about debt to income ratios. Work extra hours or an extra job and prove to all how adult you really are.
