Well, Carmax has a firm price and do not allow you to haggle. They're prices are always more expensive then a regular dealership because they claim that they INSPECT their cars very thoroughly.

FIGHT THEM! I hate when dealers win like this. They probably knew about the holes when John Doe came in to trade the car and consequently slashed their trade in price. Or the same goes if they bought it from an auction, all cars should be inspected, including the plates.

Good luck bud.

get the body shop to fix it instead of returning it. if theres one thing on the car that i'd allow to get painted it would be the bumper, probably need it too since it most likely has a bunch of rock chips already

I am completely with jnxdluck on this one. I would be livid. It was their dealer vanity plate up front where the damage is. I don't buy for one second that no one at Carmax noticed that damage and from the first picture I think Carmax did the damage since there is no bracket between the bumper and the plate.
Finally, not sure where you guys live but here in NJ it costs $500 to paint bumper covers, almost universally, and that would not include fixing the holes.
The front bumper is a significant part of the car therefore if it is damaged then there is significant damage to the car.

I would have to say that is a bit of nitpicking but definitely understandable. That is damage as those holes did not come with the car from the factory, but it will be impossible to prove that Carmax made them and not the previous owner. It also seems that the damage was caused by Carmax simply screwing on their front license plate. As the OP states, the car was turned in without a front plate and presumably without a front plate bracket. So license plate holes won't fit the OEM front bumper holes and new holes have to be made. They should stand behind the products they sell and pay for the damages.

If anything, find another used front bumper in the for sale section here. I found a front bumper for $350 in way better shape than mine but I figured I could live with the scratches on my front bumper and lip. Enjoy the car and I hope everything pans out!

If you are unhappy, do not except it.

Ask for what you want. If they fail to meet your needs, turn around and leave.

You do not want to look back someday and regret "excepting" it.

Good luck with everything!

I think carmax should do the right thing and fill in the holes. Although, technically, they would only need to fill in the two holes that they made themselves.

As for what the dealer told you, unfortunately I do agree with what others have said and I don't think the Manager even knew about that.

i bought my car at carmax in s.fla and i had two issues...

the car only had one key. they actually reimbursed me when i made a copy of the car key @ the Honda dealer. that was $100

by day two...the tint on the passenger side of my car was peeling off because of the carmax sticker that was on it. they also reimbursed me for taking off the tints at a local shop. and this was $40

so that was a grand total of $140. i'm pretty sure those holes will be less than what carmax reimbursed me for the tints + extra key.

at first, they said i bought the car as is..but then i threatened to return the car (i think you have 72 hours if i'm not mistaken) and they actually gave in to my requests.

hope this helps.
