What a special car the S2000 is, under appreciated for sure when it was manufactured!
So I'm looking for a toy and I'm 99.9% sure it will be an S2000. I have looked at Boxster S, M Roadster, Newer Z4 35is, SLK350 and the New ND RF Miata.
I was just thinking how special the S2000 is, look at how well it holds its value. I almost bought a Blue CR in 2008, I ended up buying a Shelby instead (Still own and love it), they couldn't give them away, I remember I could've bought it for somewhere around $30K. Today I could sell it for the same amount. Think about this, the Boxster S I was considering strongly had an MSRP of $75K and it's now $34K. The Z4 (mint condition) 35is was $74K and I could get it for $31.5. The M Roadsters were over $60K New and are mid $20's. The S2000's I'm looking at went for just over $30K New and are mid $20's. To me that is incredible and shows how under appreciated this car was. And for what it is worth the demand and/or value is arguably better for the S2000 then any of those cars.
I am hoping to be an owner very soon, looking forward to joining the S2000 community. I've been mostly a P-Car and Shelby enthusiast with a mix of M Cars and I also love my Jeep Wrangler. I finally convinced myself to steer away from the money pits of maintenance.
I will keep you all updated, should have a car very soon!!!
Cheers!!!

I think the reason behind this is the S2000's unique characteristics. The go-kart like handling and the high revving engine make this a car like no other, and there won't be anything to replace it. Anything that comes close will likely have electronic throttle, electric steering, and be much too cushy compared to what it used to be. Even when comparing AP1 to AP2, there are differences that I prefer more of the AP1. Best of luck with your purchase.

Just be warned, the S2000 has nowhere near the torque of your gt500. Its def a different driving experience. I owned a 2008 gt500 for 2 year. Try test driving one before you commit and see if you can appreciate the s2000 for what it is.

The S2000 is "everything" that is needed to satisfy the driving experience at a reasonable price. Power can be easily added and pretty much anything that you want to modify is available. Never going to look back with regret on my decisions. Good luck in your search.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I think it largely depends on what is important to the OP. Going from a GT500 to an s2000 is a completely opposite driving experience. Power can be added but not as cheaply as the GT500. That's why I suggested for the OP to test drive one before he commits.
