What is the speed limit at Deal's Gap?
We have some great roads in KY that have lots of curves and 55 mph. Going 60 is pushing it through most of the curves, so we have fun AND end up staying legal. I am planning a trip to the Gap and was wondering if I could expect the same luck.

As I watched that video of the guy on the motorcycle driving the Tail of the Dragon, I noticed near the end he passed a speed limit sign...55! I had to pause the video and back it up to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. On a sport bike he only broke that a couple of times...I don't imagine a car would have much of a problem with the law. On the other hand, 55 seems ridiculously high for that road...maybe the cops got tired of getting motion sickness while patrolling, and decided to just make the speed limit that high knowing that noone would seriously break it

There were plenty of third gear sections, Greg.... that spot where they guys stopped and we got pictures was actually a third gear CORNER!
Also, I maintain that it's never beneficial to go to first. Maybe it's the superior torque with the Mugen exhaust, or just a couple more MPH cornering speed, but I never felt it would have been an advantage to drop to 1st. I was driving quite 'conservatively' and hanging with you while you were dropping to 1st... until my brakes faded. 2 factors there - I was in your 'dirty' air with no fresh air for my brakes, and I have the stock pads. But also, I think if you had been taking the corners 3-5 MPH faster and staying in 2nd we wouldn't have been cooking the brakes as much, and I could have hung. Also, it would have been interesting to see if you could stay with me if I were in front and staying in 2nd... I couldn't help but feel that you were holding me up slightly!

Perhaps there were a few places at either of the road that you touch third. I certainly don't remember any in the middle of it. It's all so intense in the middle part...
I guess we will differ on the issue whether it's better to drop to first. I tried it both ways and found that it was quicker for me. I don't think the exhausts had anything to do with. Both the Mugen and HKS provide such a marginal difference, I can't see that as being a real factor...I would attribute it to differences in driving style more than anything.
LV, they call it The Dragon because if you look at a map of the road, it resembles the tail of a dragon. Check out http://www.tailofthedragon.com
Can't wait for April...damn!
