Hahaha, and the Vega was GM's attempt to head off the tide of imports.

So the GXP only made it < 1 year.

What was the reasoning to ditch it for an S2000?
I could make this a very long post about everything I disliked about that car, instead I will note the one positive that it has over a stock S2000; torque.

In every other aspect the S is a better car.

I picked up the solstice after my AP1 was totaled, sold it 3 months later and bought myself an AP2.

Ok I'll give you a few reasons:
Top Operation - I knew this going into the purchase, still its frustrating getting caught in a sudden torrential downpour and having to GET OUT to put the top up. Worst top ever.

Interior - Now I'm not a huge dash molester, but putting many miles on vehicles it does make a difference. The solstice seats aren't near as supportive or comfy as the S2K's, the materials are pure crap. Door handles pull out of the doors but can be 'popped' back in. Its even more cramped inside and less comfy.

Shifter - LOL I don't really need to go there and compare it to the S's?

Oh and get the car above 120mph and you start getting vibrations and the front gets very light. 130mph and you might think that the hood is actually going to rip off of the vehicle before you lose control. The aerodynamics are scary bad in that car.

Lightweight, performance only.

I opted for the radio delete STI!!!

GLI> VR4> Gs-R> STI> AP1> Gs-R turbo> C6> ap2

Well for me the S2K has always been a 2nd or recreation vehicle.

and my recreation vehicle timeline's been

AE86---> AE86-----> Rotax + KT100 + Sonik TAG karts (I still have the sonik) ----> S2K

If I ever sell the car (I think it'll be hard for me to sell... the gf loves it more than i do ), the next one is definitely a lotus. Leaning towards a westfield/caterham more than I am on an elise/exige.

So I guess I'm in the lightweight group

Jdm tuner (but I could care less about straight line performance)

Came from a Civic SI and Integra GSR.

Where to go next?

Ap2, maybe.

I've always wanted to build an EG hatchback...K-series. (lightweight performance)

My first car was a 1987 Toyota Corolla FX -- bought in 1989.

I just sold it and bought my second car -- a new 2007 S2000.

So, I don't think I fit into any of your categories of automotive evolution.
