I agree with most of the above (time of year, competition, no longer the latest thing). But basically...
Supply and demand. In the first year, there were "5,000" (actually more like 7K and 9K+ the next) to satisfy those few who had to have it. Three years later, all those who had to have it ... well, they have it.
Perhaps asking prices are too high? Even at these "deflated" prices, they are much, much higher than normal residuals. Think of it, a 3 year S2000 at $22K which here is called "a bargain" is asking 67% of MSRP. Compare that to 95% of the cars out there.
And face it, you'd be worried about how hard it was driven.
