Default What we (don't) like/hate about the s2000/Honda

Hi folks,

my wife and I love our s2000 its a 2001 model and we've had it from new, but there are things that we don't like about the s2000 and just hate about Honda.....

The hate item (reasons not to buy any s2000 or Honda at all):
#1 After sales services is the worst we have ever seen! In Belgium and Holland you don't see many s2000 on the roads (too expensive), this results in most Honda shops having heard of the car and maybe even having seen it at some Honda sponsored event, but that's it! So even if you need a simple service you need to pray the dealer knows what he is doing (I've had one Honda dealer in Belgium, where the mechanic called me down to the workshop because he couldn't find the dipstrick! ).

#2 If you have any problems with the car finding the cause is near to impossible unless you do it yourself and then comes all the hassle of convincing Honda that there is a problem and that they should replace the part on warranty. (NOTE: A Belgian s2000 owner on this forum has pointed me to a dealerships which should be knowledgeable, lets hope so! The car is going there soon for a new master brake cylinder)

#3 Paint got chipped of at the doorstils during installation of the alarm system . Dealer claims we did it ourselves by crashing a shopping cart into the car!!!!!! (car was 1 week old )

#4 On 2 Weeks old 18" OZ's a dealer test drove the car after a big service and scratched a curb.... result right front wheel has damage over +/- 20cm you can already guess the answer from the dealer..... we did it ourselves!

Don't like:
#1 Softtop cover mouthing is just crap, maybe its just us but it constantly pops up at the rear when driving and start vibrating and making a lot of noise.

#2 Squeaking noises when the hardtop is mounted.

#3 Lugage space?

#4 Audio system is too weak. (Is compensated by the sound comming from the engine )

#5 The "meep meep" like horn.

Like:
#1 DRIVING

#2 The head turning effect.

yeah that sucks that the dealer denies everything
next time before u get any service done do a walk around the car with the service guy
let them know any damage of the car u already have then let them work on it
any new stuff that pops up u can blame them

The boot cover was redesigned, there a new horn now, and a better radio. (All are still pretty weak though.)

The only thing I don't like is the lack of a tilt wheel. It is a bit of a pain for me to get my legs under the wheel getting into the car.

I don't mind that the radio is cheap, I am planning to upgrade and think that it's cool that I didn't pay for a system that I am going to rip out.

The thing I don't like is that is doesn't say Z8 on the side and have a V8 under the hood. But, hey, with enough money, anything is possible, right?

Antek, you have some pretty valid reasons for not liking the service of your honda, which greatly affects your desire to own an S2000. Fortunately for us Yankees, there are plenty of Honda dealers stateside which increases our options for servicing our vehicle.

BTW; the hardtop will squeak if you don't apply something like Shin-Etsu grease on the rubber seals. You should have been told that when you got the hardtop (again, poor customer service).

If you need help convincing the mechanics that a repair is necessary, you may want to print the appropriate threads from this site discussing the issue. It will go a long way in convincing them that you are not alone. If it is a unique problem, post it here, and maybe we can help.

You may want to post that soft top noise issue separately, and see if someone has a solution.

antek, gomarlins3 point is that he wants a BMW Z8. Last I checked you could get 8 or 9 S2000's for the price of 1 Z8.

(Which is what I would do if someone gave me a Z8. Sell it, and buy an extra S or two then invest the rest for retirement.)

@slaslom44,

thanks for your feedback, plz don't misundestand me (and my wife) we both love our s2000, its a lovely car to drive .

The only real problem we really have is the service which just sucks.

Regarding the squeaking noise of the hardtop this has to do with the allignment of the mounting brackets we have been told by dealers, but all dealers have so far said that they can't do anything about it, I find this hard to believe but ok.
