Default What the.... Why Me?!??!? Or not....

So I've had my car less than a month, and am still very much infatuated with it. I love driving it, looking at it, and even washing it. It's never a chore, and after spending over 2 hours washing and waxing it yesterday, I felt the same way. After I was done, I went to dinner with some friends, and knowing I had to get up early today, went to bed relatively early. When I awoke this morning, I took a shower, ran out my car to start my day, and what did I find? The shattered remains of 5 eggs. Argggghhhhhh! Why? What did I do? They nailed it twice on the drivers door, once across the hood, and twice in the trunk. One of the eggs in the rear hit so hard that there is egg up inside my taillight. I got to it early enough that I don't believe the yolk had time to ruin my paint, but everywhere an egg hit, there is target-shaped 'crackling' (for lack of a better word) in the paint. As my car is black, it is quite obvious - maybe just to me, but obvious just the same. I tried using a q-tip in the seam underneath my taillight, but that didn't work...

Sorry for the lengthy introduction, but I have a few questions.

First, has this happened to any of you? I was the only car on my street that got hit - So it wasn't kids driving by getting everyone - just me. I don't have any enemies that I know of - I didn't cut anyone off or try to race anyone on my way home from dinner....

Second, how much do you think a paint shop would charge to fix the 'targets'? My insurance deductible is $500 - Probably not worth it to file a claim...

And third, what with the world in the distress that it's in - Am I wrong in being so angered by this? After I cleaned off my car, I went back inside my house and turned on the TV - more war news, and headlines of POW's running on the ticker on the bottom of my screen. I then felt so stupid for feeling the way I did about my car - so trivial in comparison...

Sorry - Just needed to vent... Here's to tomorrow being better than today for all things great and small...

You are not wrong at all. There are a lot of monsters and barbarians in the world. Some big, some small. Sorry to hear it. I think I'd pop a vein if I encountered this..... Sounds like you have perspective and know where you are at. Apparently the egg thrower(s) don't.

They are just trying to bring down your happiness and joy. Fuck 'em. Only an evil person get happiness from destroying anothers happiness.....

I hate those little punks. I had my car egged by a truck with kids laying in the bed. As I drove by I saw three eggs hit my window and hood. I could see them in the moonlight after they drove by.

It really is a shame. The malicious mischief out there is horrible.

In the scheme of things broken eggs and auto paint may not be so important, still, quality of life starts with the small things.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. There are a lot of jerks out there.

The first week I got my car, somebody came by and "shaved" the H emblems off the car, leaving rusty dents. Then a few months later, somebody came by with a key and left several 2 meter scratches that cover the entire right length of the car. I had an overwhelming sense of disbelief and hopelessness when this happened, but after time it goes away, replaced by the amount of fun this car provides.

Once after washing my previous car, a black M3, somebody came by and walked all over the car, starting from the trunk, and denting in the roof and hood. Again, why? Some people get some kind of sadistic kick out of this.

What can one do? Having a garage is nice, but you still have to worry about parking in public places. There will always be jealous people out there that take pleasure in causing property damage to others.

But as others have noted, such malice won't make much difference in the grand scheme of things, and you'll soon get over this misfortune.

Depending on the damage, but it could be around $1000 for a couple of panels repainted and blended.

If you're in the states, try reducing your comprehensive deductible to $100 or so, so that you'll only pay out this amount when this stuff happens. In Europe, vandalism is apparently under the "collision" coverage with the corresponding premium increase, so I chose not to go that route, slapped on some of Rick's badges, and enjoyed the car with the benefit of weight reduction from the missing paint!

My neighbor across the street got a new black 350Z. The first night he had it, someone threw two eggs at it during the night while it was parked in his driveway. It also left the cobweb cracking you got, but no other paint damage. He asked the dealer he bought it from if they could paint it under warranty. After a little talking, they agreed to repaint his rear bumper and his rear hatch. If your car is fairly new, it's worth a shot to see if you can get it repainted from your dealer under warranty. It's probably a long shot, but worth trying.
