Default what would do in this situation?

okay so i just bought my NFR s2k. freaking love it! not once have i launch it, rev it over 7 grand or push it at all....just cruising for me. the only reason maybe is bc im kinda scared of fishtailing, exspecailly driving on and off a ramp. i just had a huge storm and i actually felt my car going out of control, but i just shift to neutral and let go of the gas til i have control. ill be honest, ive been only driving stick for about one yr n half and i dont want my s2k to go to the dump.

my question is, when you know when you're about to fishtail or lose control of your car. what do you do usually? hit the gas? shift to lower gears? break? counter steer? or do nothing? lol thanks everyone.

Go do some local autocross. Regardless of advice recieved over the internet the best way to learn is practicing in "real life".

Lifting is bad. It will cause an instant spin if the rear is stepping out. Ease out of it and counter steer, or apply throttle as needed to get it back behind you. If you come into a corner too hot (you shouldn't by the way), do your best not to lift abruptly or smash the brakes. Try to be as smooth as possible with your inputs. That applies to both in-control, and out-of-control.

rnye is right though, go autox. Hitting a cone beats the hell out of hitting a tree.

Yep, autox and make sure you actually push it. Cruising around the course like you are on a sunday drive does no good.

And never reved over 7k , that is like just "sticking the tip in", I don't know how you can do it. If road condtions are find and you are going in a straight line you would be hard pressed to lose control, if you "let her have it".

No wonder there are so many threads about people spinning and destroying their cars.

but i just shift to neutral and let go of the gas til i have control
I'll make sure next time I'm spinning in circles on a on ramp to leisurely put the car in neutral and cross my arms until the car regains control on it's own.

Top three things you don't do in a corner.....or when the rear end is trying to pass the front end.

Number 3 - Thing you don't do.....Shift to neutral

Number 2 - Thing you don't do.....Lift off the throttle

Number 1 - Thing you don't do.....hit the brakes.

You got some good advice from earlier posts. Enroll yourself in a good driving school or sign up for autocross where you can explore safely and network with other people who can help you.

Mind boggling that there are people driving cars (any cars) that don't know basic emergency manuevers.

+1 go autoxing. You need to learn the limits of the car...and some folks at the event might be able to teach you the best way to correct when you start to spin.

seems to me the first thing you should do is not push it that hard in the rain on the street.

Second thing would be autox.

Some gokarting wouldn't hurt either.
S2k is my first RWD car.
Gokarting helped me a lot when getting used to RWD.
