I'd take the original. The '00 is the purest form of the car.
Word. Even the 02 looks kinda messed up to me. Little silly things like odd colored interior plastics and rings around the tail lights are contradictory to the essence of the car to me. Just like the 88 CRX Si is the only real CRX, the '00 is the only real S2K. All the others, especially the watered down, malformed '04+ are just further and further diluted and distorted versions of the original designers concept.

I'm an architect so I'm especially sensitive to design decisions.

Sure, the plastic window kinda sucks, the carpet clad console collects cat hair, the ride is rough, the rear likes to come out more than any other year, and the stereo blows but all that adds up to character.

I would definitely get the '00 again. I wouldn't even think about it. Especially after the bond I've made through all the auto-xing.

I faced this decision a couple weeks ago when I bought my S2k. While I love the original '00, I wanted the glass rear window (Why? I have no clue... I've used it for 3 only miles so far...).

I lucked out and ended up getting probably one of the freshest AP1's out there: '03, only 3300 miles If something happens to her (god forbid/knock on wood), it'll suck trying to find another young AP1

that is a completely subjective question. That is like asking someone what is the best beach in america. There are MANY different things that make the cars different, some think they are good, some think they are bad.

I like the MY00 because it was the 1st edition and is a little more RAW than the others. When you get into the glass rear window, leather console covers, metal trims, etc....it is my opinion that the car is becoming more civilized and more of a luxury sports car rather than a pure un-adulerated sports car. All the bells and whistles just divert you attention away from the BEST aspect of these cars...the ENGINE. That is why I bought the MY00, because I DO like some luxuries, but some are un-needed (glass rear window for me....I will get flamed for that, but as long as you take care of the plastic, it WILL last) and I am able to taylor the luxuries by upgrades rather than paying more $ for all of them and then having to dump some.

Just my $.02.

John

No way will you get a consensus.
I don't get the impression that he's looking for one. He just asked the question. It got me thinking enough to reply!

I think most of us will agree that the S2000 is a great car, regardless of which year model you're talking about.

I've driven them all and i prefer the original. The best beach in the nation is Honopu on the Napali coast of Kauai- more than likely you have never heard of it.

Actually...my parents were there last week! They were on vacation in Kauai for 2 weeks. Pretty much saw the whole island. Only time they left Kauai was to leave from the Big Island.

I do not like rocky or mountainous beaches....too intimidating to relax (always wanna look at something). I like beaches that are FLAT and the surrounding area is flat as well. Lookup St. George Island in the Panhadle of FL. GEORGOUS!

What are you talking about????

How is the '01 any less pure than the '00? I think the '04 is the only S that's been civilized a little too much, but I'd still take it.

As an overall daily driver + track , I'd take an '04...if I was just going to have the car for weekends or something I'd take an '03.

I love my 05. Glass back window, better center console, much better exterrior styling, better wheels, and larger rubber on the back. Plus, I think the little bit of extra torque is nice.

Still, I hate only having tan interrior for the 05 GPW. If the 04 came with black in the GPW, I'll say 04.
