Anyone have the Escort Passport SR1 or SRX? They are supposed to be the most expensive. I want to know how well they work and if the $ are justified.

X band radar guns transmit radio signals and listen in the 10.5 GHz frequency range.
K band radar guns transmit radio signals and listen in the 24 GHz frequency range.
Ka band radar guns transmit radio signals and listen in the 32 GHz freqency range.

This page has a great descripton of radar and laser information.

If you are willing to settle for 98% of the performance of a state-of-the-art V1 v1.8, then try buying a used V1 v1.7 off of eBay (going for around $300-$325). If you are patient, you should be able to get it for less than $300--I got mine for $264 with the concealed display (delivered)! Again, the newer V1's offer slightly better performance in certain bands and is smaller physically, but even Valentine doesn't really recommend that v1.7 users upgrade!

Good suggestion. The V1 in my pictures is the version 1.7.

Geez Barry, the car mags should hire you to do part of their annual radar detector tests. That's some really neat stuff you posted here.

What was the line from Shakespeare, "Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more".

OK. Directional arrows- Advantage V1. Expert Meter display mode- Advantage Passport 8500. That's about as concise as I can be. As someone else mentioned, I use my detector aurally rather than visually; the moment I hear it go off in a location not known for falsing, I let off the gas. Only afterwards will I then look at the display to learn more about the possible threat. So to me, the arrows wouldn't really be a help, might possibly even be a distraction. The slimmer profile of the Passport is also more attractive to me, less obvious to potential thieves and for $150 (or more) less than the V1, the matter is settled. Oh and I recently returned my Passport to Escort to fix a problematical windshield mount; they refurbished it with a new case, and updated the horn to the newest specs. All for free. As I recall, Valentine charges hundreds for upgrades. Advantage Passport.

I'm sorry, but.... That is the stupidest thing I have seen posted on this website in weeks. What fool would spend over 30k on a performance car and try to save a hundred bucks or so on a radar detector? One speeding ticket and your cheap radar detector just cost you twice that difference. Not to mention what will happen to your insurance premiums if the insurance company finds out.
