Default what's the deal with the start button?

I know it's cool looking and the S2K was one of the first cars to offer this, but after owning my S2K for over a month, I realized it's probably just a gimmick. If we have to put the key in and turn it two clicks anyway, it would make sense to just turn one more click for start like most cars. With the button, two inputs / two hands are required to start the car (not counting the clutch pedal). Is there a benefit to the button I am missing? It's like launch control at a missile silo for god's sake!

Newer cars (Lexus, among others) will sense the key fob in your pocket and then you can just press the start button. It's back to being a one hand / one input operation. Without that setup, I don't see how key + button makes any sense.

It's part of the uniqueness of this car. Race cars start with a button. It is properly located to the left of the wheel because if you stall a the car in a race, you can select the 1st gear with your right hand and re-start the car with your left.

This is something you cannot do if you have to perform both procedures with your right hand (at least not simultaneously).
