Default What's this on my fender?

Hey all... Sorry for doing this, but I wanted to get some increased visibility to my issue. Please check out the thread below in the S2000 Body and Paint Forum...

Any help/input you all can provide is much appreciated, as always.

Thanks!

That's not bird crap. Too runny. Looks like a big drip of something while you were driving and it spread backwards. Wonder if you were driving behind some truck or something that leaked solvent of some sort?

Unfortunately, it's like running over a nail. Dealer won't be responsible for it unless they're doing you a favor.

Will your detailer friend take a crack at it?

I used to get spots like that on my black GTI. They looked oily like that, but they came out. Try some paint cleaner.

This. Go to an auto paint supply store and see what they recommend. Do something about it soon.

Does it feel like it is above the clear coat?
Like the clear coat is gone?
Or perfectly flat?

If it seems like it is above the clear coat or flat, the first thing I’d try is a clay bar.

In the actual thread from the Body/Paint forum, some folks suggested going to a dealer. I'll give it a shot, but logically, I cannot see how they would accept any responsibility for it.

Regarding the bird crap, that's out because I wash the car pretty regularly with soap and warm water. If there were ever bird crap on the car, I'd have noticed and cleaned it off ASAP.

My best guess is that something off a truck fell onto the car while I was driving.

It feels flat, and the area around the splatter is still perfectly reflective like the rest of the car's finish. I tried washing it off with soap/water to no avail. The detailer I'm taking it to is www.jasonsautospa.com and he's seen the photos. He said he's never seen anything like it in 11 years, but he'd see what he could do and check the thickness of my clear coat.

Like I said in the other thread, I'll check with a dealer, but the first dealership I spoke to (Schaumburg Honda) said they'd never seen anything like it and had no ideas on how to get rid of it. I'll try another joint and see what they say. In the mean time, I'll also try the paint cleaner.

I just don't want to make things worse with any products I'm unfamiliar with.

Thanks for all the input. I'll update when I know more. Unfortunately, it's 2 more weeks until Jason can take a look at the car.
