What's Next?
It's great to read about the 350Z & RX8, but I have to wonder what Honda has in store for the faithful. I don't want this thread to fall into a "The 02 is the final year!" conversation, rather a "What's next for the Honda S2K?" thread. Honda seems have done quite well with this car so far. They seem to have been able to renew interest and repeat buyers by addressing a few of the cars problem areas in MY 02. Let's say for the sake of this conversation that the car WILL be around for a few more years. The question becomes what will Honda do to keep it fresh, on top of it's niche, and generate the desire in you to buy another one? My thoughts: I think the V6 is inevitable. The tranny still seems to be an issue for a few people, so it will require some more thought. I don't see a coupe in the future. 18"wheels as an option. Auto-trans. as option. A stock sound system to kill for. Did I leave out anything?...Sure!
Most Japanerse cars go through body changes about every 4 years. I'm not sure if they'll do that with the S2K, though. Instead of a V6, I'd look for Honda to bring more of their racing (F1 and CART) research into the engines.
I have changed my mind on the number of cylinders the next S2K will have. Honda is doing some really creative work with their racing/prototype bikes. They have come up with a very high tech V5. As the S2K is the technology flagship for their automotive efforts maybe it would be a fitting move to transition it to a four wheel platform with a larger displacement. Maybe not, but it does seem that whatever they do, it should be out of the ordinary.
Chipster- there was a photo in a post here about 6 or so months ago of a S2000 prototype drawing showing the engine with 5 cylinders. You can probably do a search for "5 cylinder" and it would come up.
I had a dream the other night that they released an S2200 and people called it the S2.2K.

Does anybody know how a V5 works? A four stroke engine with five cylinders in a V? I know there are several five cyl. powered cars around, but what is their firing order, and how smooth do they idle/run? One last question. What will Honda have to do to get you to buy another S2K? New color, engine upgrade, or what?
