What's the point in getting bolt ons?

I only get a "thrill" from acceleration when the car I'm driving is a LOT quicker than whatever I normally drive, or when the car I'm driving has more power than the chassis, tires, and/or suspension, can put to the ground effectively. Cindy Cook's S15 Silvia is only making about 400 WHP, while Tripper Cooks R33 Skyline GTR is making about 700 WHP. The S15 is much more of a "thrill" becaue it's so much harder to keep the power under control. The R33 is a lot quicker, but a lot less of a "thrill." A 454 Chevelle that runs high 13's is a lot more "thrilling" to drive than an S2000 that runs high 13's, becuae the Chevelle is so much more of a handful.
The sensations of accleration and speed are highly subjective. When you're use to an S2000 with FI, a stock S2000 feels like a pig. When you're use to a Miata, a stock S2000 feels very quick and very fast. The differences in the way the performance is preceived is purely subjective.
Some mods make a car subjectively quicker, even if they make it objectively slower. A loud intake or exhaust system makes a car seem faster, even when it's not. If the tires spin at the drop of a hat, the car seems quicker, even if the tires only spin easily because they're not delivering great traction. Most people seem to be happy if their car is subjectively quicker, whether it's objectively quicker or not, becuse for most people, the subjective experience is all they have. Most don't actually do any critical performance testing to evaluate the effectiveness of mods, so the subjective experience is the only tool they have or care about.

Darn, you're skinner than me!
I'm 6'1" and 155 lbs.
Freud would have a field day with the sexual hangups that make people associate a car with a particular penis size. Real men don't worry about such things.

I'm typically 152-153. I can eat whatever I want and not gain weight, like down a pound or two of mashed potatoes before going to bed and burn off the calories in my sleep. I get mad because there's all these dieting/lose weight commercials and it's not fair because we need more products to make you gain weight and be a fat ass.
And I agree with the real men comment - pp sizes didn't need to be brought up in this thread. If you're packing, there's no reason to bring it up because girls will spread that info around faster than the ASM s2000 running the time attack

Do your research. most of the time its not about gains, its about the sound. IMO opinion the money i spent on my exhaust is the best 800 ive ever spent.
When I bought my S, I had zero intentions of spending any money on it outside of payments, insurance and gas. That worked out for about a year. Then I attended a local meet.
I have to say to date, I've been a pretty good boy. Besides spending hours on this site, and browsing vendors websites, I haven't bought too many aftermarket parts. But man, it sure adds up.
The biggest amount of $ that I've dropped so far is on a heavy dual-exhaust system that will likely not give me any added power. That I fully expect. I'm getting it because I hope it will enhance my enjoyment of this car in that visceral way a great sounding exhaust can. Just my 2 cents.

^ Yeah, I know. I'm just really picky about the quality of the tone, and wasn't just looking for louder.
For example, when I used to own a Mustang, I had a Bassani exhaust system with the x-pipe. To me, it sounded awesome. I wasn't crazy about the typical Flowmaster sound.
And for the S, I've heard a few different systems, and they all sounded remarkably unlike each other. Some I liked, some I wasn't crazy about.
But anyway, I've ordered it, am waiting for it. If I think about it too much, I may just get sick to my stomach thinking about the price I paid for it!
