My S2k is still very new with less than 700 miles on it. When in first and second gear I noticed the engine makes some very strange sounds at low RPM's. Sounds kind of like a low pitched mechanical "growling". Almost as if there was loose metal running around in there. This usually happens when I let go of the gas and let the car coast. Don't know if this is just the way the engine is (due to its high revving nature) or some sort of problem. I don't think it should be a defect or problem since these cars are all hand built in Japan under the same roof as the NSX. Anyone know the sound I am talking about? Or maybe the car's still too new?

My S makes a kinda weird noise when I decelerate with it in gear and let go of the gas. Kinda like a "errrrrr" noise coming from the clutch. I don't know if its supposed to sound like that or not, but it sounds weird. Could be a problem with the clutch but I'm too sure.

Can anybody help us out?

My car made that noise until about 12 or 13,000 miles when I had the grind fixed and they replaced the clutch also. Most of the cars had that noise with the old clutch and if it's the same noise it's nothing to worry about.

Yep! I've got it, too! Appeared about the same time, and hasn't gone away over the months since. I asked about it here on the list, but your description of the noise is better than mine. I sense that it has to do with the clutch
but the dealer doesn't agree. I'm just learning to put up with it.

I would certainly like to hear more about the "clutch problem" that keeps appearing on this list...please!

Jim

Are we talking about the "bucket of bolts" sound the car makes when you back off the gas? If so the clutch cured my noise. This doesn't mean that your clutch is bad, just noisey.

Barry it sounds like you'll get you car back just as temps really start to warm up. Maybe you could do a nice day trip over to Jackson Hole for lunch to help with the re-break-in. I'd love to be able to drive my car on those wonderful twisty roads you've got out there.
