I hope it does go away. I'd hate to think that a car of this caliber comes with problems like that. but the "bucket of bolts" is a good description of the noise. I don't feel there is any problem with the performance of the car. But then, I don't know if its performing at its peak since I have no other s2k's to compare it to. I do know this, I have a 94 prelude VTEC with about 150k miles on it and it performs better now than it ever has (new tranny, new clutch recently). I wonder if this is typical of VTEC cars?

I first thought it was the exhaust manifold's heatshield. Then the TSB 0054 came out and described the noise to a T and it's not the heatshield. Check out this on s2ki.com ...

TSB-00-054

See if this decribes the condition you are experiencing...

hey thanks for the link to the service bulletin. Unfortunately, my car is a 2001 model and brand spankin' new. Since the bulletin applies to 2000 models, does that mean that this problem doesn't exist for the 2001 models?

And speaking of service bulletins. I know that the 2000 models had a problem with gear grinding form 1st to 2nd gear. This was fixed under warranty and also taken care of in the 2001 models. My problem is that every once in a while I'll get a "slight" grind form 1st to 2nd but at low RPM's. I notice this doesn't happen when I make a conscious effort to engage the clutch completely before shifting. Is this all in my head or do other 2001 model owners know what I'm talking about?

I have a 2001 built in Dec 2000 (1,800 miles to date). I have noticed difficult 1-2 shifts with a cold tranny. This condition goes away completely after about ten minutes of warm up driving.

I have had a bad grind a couple of times during high rpm 1-2 shifts. I think this is just a matter of getting my shift timing right. This little shifter is so quick and precise, and my clutch foot isn't! I have made a conscious effort to slow my shifts down, just a tenth of a second, and I haven't had a bad shift in 800 miles. I'll keep an eye on it, and if it crops back up, I'll let the dealer perform the fix (Gulp!).

Keep and eye on your oil consumption, I had to ad a quart at 1,000 miles, but have not had to ad any since then. This is normal during break in.
