I approve, Bieg, but you have the most expensive mod of all. Blonds go well with a black S2000, what color is yours?

Sure, I can't tap out 64ths like Mr. Peart, but at least I would know when to quote him appropriately.

Who claimed to know what was best for you, SCS2k? I want to meet this fascist.

Can anyone in the class tell me what other sociological group formation falls into this practise?
Religious Fanatics
Cults
Fascists

Silver, you have to realize that the livelyhood of this board to a certain extent depends on the sponsors. The sponsors sell aftermarket modifications. Many forum members design and sell aftermarket parts. People like you or me making the unpopular case for leaving it stock doesn't help their business any and so they circle the wagons and go on the defensive.

So THAT explains the vilification (God damn but thats become my word of the week...)

I hope that free-market doesn't supercede or preclude free-speech on this board. Moderators, say it ain't so!

Maybe THAT explains how our "this is only my opinion, but hey man, its your car" disclaimers go unheard -- they don't care that we already think this way, the problem is we're poisoning the tender minds of their cattl...oops, their customers! Confusing and ensnaring them with our big words and alluring syllogisms!

I can hear the rebuttals now:

Bieg, if you honestly think that everyone on this board that makes an argument for modding their car simply based on the fact that sponsors help support it, then you're
seriously disillusioning yourself. Sure they're important, but it isn't considered a horrific taboo to say something contrary to what the sponsors would like.
I didn't say I thought that EVERYONE has that motive. I do say that SOME do. When someone claims they are "sponsored" by a company it is to be expected that they will promote the sponsor as that is the nature of the relationship. The fact that those people try to shout down anyone proposing that you might want to consider leaving your S2000 stock is understandable in that light and that is my point. I don't think it is right but I understand it. I think it is important for some of the newer folks on this board to remember that many of these raves about this mod or that mod can be coming from some biased sources. For example how critical is Greg Stevens going to be when he got a free (or nearly so) carbon fiber intake from MG racing? I am sure he is going to rave about it on line and promote the Heck out of it at the S2000 days meet but he no longer is unbiased because he is beholden to MG Racing. If I say I like the Alpine speakers because they bolt right in it is because I purchased them and actually LIKE them and am passing on an unbiased opinion about them. When Greg tells you how much he likes the free intake MG gave him how do you know what he is saying is true? It might very well be but there will always be that doubt. I am not trying to knock Greg or MG racing as I am sure they are good, honest people but you can see how a situation like this can give the appearance of bias.

Funny, I remember when you were not allowed to hawk stuff on these forums but lately the Forum has become one big marketing tool. A whole online community starved for products to bolt onto their S2000s. Plant a few seeds among the core people, they talk it up here and next thing you know you have started a feeding frenzy of "group buys".

Maybe the future of these forums is that they become one big advertisement.

You know, i think there is just about equal amounts of shouting from both camps, the 'mod squad' and the 'purists'. There will be no convincing the other side so why not agree to disagree. All this squabbling results in is elevated blood pressure and less respect all around.
