Default Wheel Sizes

Disclaimer: This has likely been discussed before, however when I searched for "wheel size" or "wheels" it brings up just about every thread ever posted. (I suppose because people list their mods in their sigs -- screws the searches)

I am looking around for wheels for the S2K, here is what I am looking for: 18 inch rims that are light, *at least* 9 inches wide in the rear, and 8 inches in the front. I'd like to get them in black, bronze, or gun metal, but that's not that imporant (can always get them coated later..)

I've been looking around and it doesn't look like there are too many options for our cars that meet those requirments - beyond getting them custom made (hrewheels.com ...)

I called DAZZ up and talked to one of their sales dudes and they mentioned that the widest I could go would be 8.5 with their CP-035 rim ( http://www.racinghart.com/wheel.asp?mkid=20&mdlid=113 ) which weighs just over 7 pounds and looks good too -- besides the colors..

Anyways, my question is, what do I need to be looking for in a rim to make sure that at 9+ inches wide it will fit my car? What does "offset" mean? How wide can we go? Is there several particular wheels that work well on the S2K?

Thanks!

Chris

cjb80,

For the 18x8.5 (rear) you will need +55mm. Minimal is +50mm, and you probably could not drop it too much with 255/35/18's.

With 18x9's (rear) you will need at least +60mm.

OK, at what point (size/offset) does the edge of the wheel start sticking out of the wheel well (and then potentially rub) ??

Thanks

Dude, those 18 inch CP35s aren't 7 lbs. That's the weight for the 15 inch rims. 16x7 weighs like 12.75 lbs, that was from an issue of SCC. 17's probably weigh around 15 lbs. These wheels are about the same weight as TE37s.

There is a import retailer in town (houston) called Carboy.

I'll give them a call about 18 inch offsets and sizes.

Phantom, you mentioned that it would take a +55 mm offset on an 18x8.5 inch rim to for on the s2000, however the largest offset that Volk lists for the TE37's is +50mm .. I assume that's what everyone is using?

Any other lightweight wheel options available?

Phantom did you try to fit the TE37 caps on the front wheels? I'm thinking about covering the hub area instead of painting it. Also, what kind of spray paint did you use?
