I waited until my car had 24,450 miles on it before I VTEC'ed it. And I am not lying about this....

I bought the car used... and I used the word "I"... ha ha ha.

1) wait for a clear intersection
2) roll out in 1st
3) turn left
4) VTEC
5) countersteer

i hit vtec at 615 miles. i just followed the 600 mile breakin rule and after that hell broke loose.

oil consumption is pretty good @ 3800 miles, the only time it burns oil is when i vtec obviously. under normal driving, the engine doesnt use oil at all.

alright there has been much debate on this.....you can hit vtec whenever, even before 600 (although i would at least wait until ur in triple digits; more than 100)....this basically lets you feel more power, but your car wont last 50 years, if you wait and "break it in properly" according to the manual, you wont feel it pull as hard as someone who vtec'd it the first day. but that means your car will also last longer in the long run....hope this helps, also, i say, hell yeah, go out and vtec allllllll day.....

id rather have my engine last "50 years" than having an engine that makes +2-5 whp more than my current engine. thats just me though and im pretty crazy.

As far as when you first start your car, I generally wait for the car to warm up first (Until your heat indicator reaches 3 bars). Also, remember to check your oil on a consistant basis with this car. If your car doesn't VTEC, it's probably low on oil.

You have enough miles and then some to VTEC. I took mine past 6000 revs the first day (100 miles). I did this in 1st and second gear. Keep in mind, the amount of time spent in between 7000 and 8000 revs in 1st and 2nd gear is so minimal. It's not like being in 4th or 5th gear and just holding it there. I also changed the oil at 500 and 1000 miles. The engine runs beautifully. I am not advocating taking a brand spanking new engine to it's redline. I just think that it is ok to push to some degree, just use common sense.

I cracked at like 568, couldn't take it anymore. Going from VTEC'ing all day at 8K in my old car to shifting at 5K for 568 miles with no VTEC, it was ugly. I was ready to admit myself into the Betty-VTEC Clinic.
