Let me guess...DMV's only gonna charge you $10.00 for the copy?

in SC we have 4-5 hour DMV lines. Sucks to stand that long just to get a shake of the finger and a nice "Call your bank"

Ok hopefully I can help you a little. In NYS you can order a copy of your lost title online.

It takes awhile but it usually arrives within a month.

Now from personal experience, the DMV should have forwarded you a copy of the title. On the title it should have listed the bank as the lein holder. You said that your loan is now payed off. At that point HSBC should have mailed you a notorized statement declaring that all oustanding accounts/leins against this vehicle have been satisfied. That statement should be kept with the original title, for proof at the future sale of the vehicle. Or you can present that statement and your title with the lein holder to the DMV and have a new clear title printed.
