Default Who has a V1 radar detector and does it really work?

V1 or any other top brand of detectors...just wondering if they really work and are worth getting? I'm not trying to use it to drive recklessly but sometimes on clear stretches I wanna be able to wind out the car, hit triple digits for a brief moment without having to worry about the cops. Have any of you ever gotten pulled over even WITH one of these in your car (ie. it didn't work like it was supposed to) ?

They work if you drive smart. Motortrend just had their 2004 Radar detector shootout.

BTW, the Escort 8500 beat the V1 by a tenth of a point (94.9 vs 94.8)

Yes and yes. I wouldn't trade the arrows for anything. Given the same sensitivity and range, the arrows beat not knowing where it's coming from. You feel naked without them...

Like red says, you've got to drive smart. I live in an area where some of the open roads have 45mph limits. When there is no traffic to speak of the cops like to use instant on radar. If you're the only car they use it on you're screwed.

I love the V1 and wouldn't trade it for the 8500 but the 8500 has a much better street price.

Do they work? Well, at least on I70 my V1 saved me three times going to California. On one clear stretch I got almost a 2 mile warning that saved me, but not the Civic that blew by at over 100. The only problem is the Ladar. By the time you get a signal, they've got you. Like, umm, 85 in a 70 zone.

Yes, the V1 is for real.

I have not been pulled over for speeding since I starting using it a year ago.

I will say around town the V1 falses quite a bit. All detectors do false, of course, but the V1 does more than the Escort detectors I have used. I still wouldn't trade it for any other detector out there in this price range.
