Whoa... what a night
Yup! maybe you guys don't remember me but I was the one who bragged about how my friends and I used to race down the high way 125mph+... But I think i've finally learn my car and this is how I learned it.
After watching a movie which end at 3:00AM I thought about my car... yeah I was thinking about my car and how I need to learn it more... So I took the car for a spin as my goals were to launch the car smoothly, downshift smoothly and upshift smoothly. And boy was I an idiot for all those time i've done stupid stuff to my car (accidently drift, driving like a maniac while trying to race with other people).
So on the way home, instead of going home I was out for a ride. First, I drove around my neighbor hood. There were a lot of stop signs around my neighbor hood therefore I thought "lets practice launching it smoothly." After 3 runs around my neighbor hood, which is about 15 complete stop and launch. The first few tries were very rough and incorrect timing. I was either putting too much gas or too little which cause the vehicle to shake or stutter as I try to launch it. After awhile, I think I've got the hang of it and yes I did launch it smoothly.
Then I decided to practice Upshifting and Downshifting smoothly. Since my friends said it is important to downshift smoothly so your car won't shake and you won't put too much damage to your friction plate and also you won't lose power due to the shaking. So I thought about it as I slowly remove my foot from the clutch and try to time it right to the RPM. Upshift was very easy to pick up as I shift to the next gear right after depress the clutch paddle and let it go as the RPM drop really fast about 3-5 bars. But there were a few time where I either let go too soon causing the car to jump forward or too slow making the car stutter. This time I was driving in a circle around my neighborhood where there were few lights and no stop signs. Speed limit was 45mph all around.
Downshifting was the hardest. I thought I remember how my friend used to rev the RPM up a few kick and then let go of the clutch. And the result that i've tried was very dissatisfying as the car either jump forward with a slightly drift out of control as I raise the RPM approx. 500-1000 RPM over the match up of the clutch and the flywheel; or stutter if I didn't raise the RPM high enough. I soon discover that "If hold on to the gas paddle at it's current position as I depress the clutch paddle and by the time I shift and let go of the clutch, the RPM would match with the clutch smoothly which will eliminate jumpy or stuttering feeling. It just feels good too know my car like it was brand new!
So I was thinking... If I were to race someone, I would want to start off with a high RPM with the smooth feeling as it begin. So I decided to try to downshift to the correct MPH also match the RPM without miss shifting or over revving the engine. But first I have to see which MPH in which gear I should drop and which gear I should avoid. So I decided to max out 2nd gear and 3 gear to see how different it is to my friend's 02. And these were my list.
On MY04:
1st=40mph
2nd=57mph
3rd=78mph
4th=afraid of cops so didn't try.
Friend 02:
1st=40mph
2nd=63mph
3rd= didn't try, I didn't want to abuse his car too much or if I miss shift and over Rev it. And to this point I saw his RPM compare to mine at 6th gear going 65mph my RPM is around 3000RPM-3500RPM.. While his 02 was around 2500RPM-3200RPM. I was wondering if this would effect my MPG compare to his. =/ If someone let me know I would really appreciate it.
One mistake that i've done was driving at the speed of 80mph and I figure by the time I drop to 3rd it would be around 75mph. But I was hitting it at 79mph which sent the car almost crazily out of control(slight drift). Now I thought about my friend asking me the other day if I saw him drifting on the highway. And then I thought to myself (how can you drift on a straight highway). Now I've figure out what he'd done and I am going to let him know tomorrow.
I hope you enjoy the reading. Good night. (prepare for flaming)

I trust this post is a joke - I can't believe anyone can be this ignorant, or stupid.

I wish you'd learn English grammar.

2kturkey, you are rude, ignorant and/or stupid to post so negatively.
I don't imagine you are an English scholar or some Shakespear quality writer. And even if you are, damn it just makes you look "ignorant, or stupid" to judge someone base on grammar. When Einstein first came to US as a refugee, his English grammar was no where on par with the native speaker, does that make him stupid or ignorant?

Hey no problem guys, sorry if my description wasn't so clear.
Turning music off while driving help you listen to your engine and it helps a lot! You guys should try it.
Yeah, these people aren't so cool when it come to testing your car out on the highway but they must have their reasons... Oh well I hope this thread helps you out.
