i do the 3 to 4 shift palm down like was sugested earlier. DOnt try to force it, just let the shifter bounce into nautral and then pull straight back with light pressure and you will be fine.

Thanks for the help and replies. On the way to work this morning, I simply pulled gently straight back from 3rd to 4th. It worked well. Thanks for bearing with me on this.

Just work on your palm positioning on the shifter to push straight back.

On the bright side misshifting into a gear that is too high is not really a misshift becuase it's perfectly safe. Hitting 2nd instead of 4th is probably where 90% of devastating misshifts happen on this car!

Yea, that's why I was backhanding it into 4th from 3rd, to prevent that devastating mis- shift. I realize that's not necessary.

I agree let the shift come natural. You should not really have to guide the shifter into 4th. Just let the shifter do the work for you. If you are shifting quickly with force from 3-4 just make sure that you pull the shifter straight down and not toward you body to avoid going into 2nd.

On my S, I find that I have to apply pressure to the right when shifting from 5th to 6th as it will frequently mis-shift to 4th if I try to gently pull the shifter straight back from 5th.

Has anyone here experienced the same thing?

From 1-2 and from 5-6 you should give it a little pressure to make sure that it does not go into 4th. Any other shifts you should let the shifter do the work.

Yep- it sounds like you are trying too hard. Relax! I have never done this kind of mis-shift. In fact the only mis-shift I really do is when I am trying to go for 7th gear.... lol. That happens when I am going a bit too fast and trying, naturally, to reduce noise and RPMS. After hearing howling, I go for another gear that isn't really there. But anywho- just chill out, and don't try too hard to not mis-shift.

Again, thanks for all the help. This thread has changed the way I shift and has increased the pleasure I take in my car. From now on, it's a relaxed tug straight down from 3rd to 4th. No more worries.
