it isnt THAT rare. now that i have been paying more attention to them (since i want one) i see a few of them everyday. you know you drive a rare car when the dealership tech walks up to your completely stock car and tells you they dont service cars with so many aftermarket parts on it. my msp is one of about 5000 in the entire world, granted it doesnt hold a candle to the S, but my point is that a lot of people seem to think the s2000 is special. they are right to an extent, but the rest of the world see it as another miata clone that cost about $10k more than an actual miata. they say "why would i pay $35k for a honda?" you have to remember that most people dont actually care what their car feels like to drive, evidenced by the sheer number of tahoes, yukons, and escalades on the road, they care about the badge and the way that it looks. honda is not a prestigious badge and despite the fact that the s2000 is a good looking little car, it doesnt stand out the way a BMW or Porsche does. the others being more expensive actually makes them more desirable to certain people.

people who want to be seen in a convertible dont buy an s2000, s2000s are for people who want to drive.

^ yes, i too notice them much more often now. its a pretty rare car, but this wasnt really why i bought it. performance + reliability + price is whats attractive in s2k. its a special car because Honda put SO much into it to make it what it is.

I see much less Z4Ms then S2ks by the way.

yeah i agree that honda came up with a winning combination. they took on the big dogs in germany and came out on top. the thing is that apart from us car enthusiasts the world did not notice.

thinking about it now i do find it a little odd that the s2000 wasnt badged as an acura in this country. people wouldnt have batted an eye at a 30k acura.

there is a bit of a parallel between the s2k and the vw phaeton. when the phaeton came out it was the most technologically advanced car on the market, but hardly anyone was willing to pay $80k for a volkswagen. the s2000 is one of the best drivers cars ever, but the fact that it says honda on the front automatically meant the vast majority of american convertible buyers completely ignored it.

all that said, their loss is our gain. the used market for s2000s is incredibly reasonable, allowing young folks like myself a chance to actually own a great car. i want the best drivers car i can get for under 20k, i cant think of anything that even comes close to the feel of an s2000 in that price range.

I've been driving great cars for 25 yrs ...i've had more cars than I'd like to speak of . Not bragging at all , just for reference. Nothing drives like an S2k at any price

Note: He said nothing DRIVES LIKE an S2k. Aside from the fact that the statement is mostly subjective and NOT performance based (and therefore stupid to argue), what other cars have the same combination of the S2000's qualities?

- High revving, low displacement n/a engine
- Classic roadster proportions, F/R layout, and size
- Dedicated ragtop
- Rock solid chassis
- Rifle bolt shifter

Go ahead. We'll wait.

since when low displacement is a good thing.... obviously you will not find a car with engine like S2000, you will however find a better one.

Thanks for failing to mention a car that drives like an S2000, and proving my point in one fell swoop.
