Basically Honda wasn't making enough money off the platform to justify it's continuation. The reasons for that are multiple and hotly debated.

Probably because the market for sports cars was on the decline. Same reason they pulled the NSX and RSX. Low profitability and low sales.

The production line was retooled for the HSV-010, which is production ready, but never made it into production for the public.

Why the s2000 was discontinued is a household problem? Holy first world problems batman.

The answer is simple: Too small of a market in a down economy.

And honestly the biggest reason I suspect of this, is because Honda refused to option in a auto tranny. Had they done that, they could have gotten much more sales I bet. But I'm glad they didn't, it kept the spirit of the car pure while it lasted.

It's because it no longer had a 9000 rpm redline. Everyone knows RPM is the single most important stat to a buyer.

I thought the timing was a result of the pedestrian safety standards that the S2000 wouldn't pass. Significantly raising the hood to provide more gap between any fixed part of the engine and the hood being one of the main issues, and one that would take away the low wedge profile that makes the S2K so great.

Made me LOL. I have a bigger issue - MY android does not get service in my office bathroom stall. I get bored when I go do-do and cannot surf s2ki

On a serious note - I think a lot of the reasons stated above made a compelling reason to kill the ss2k. What a shame. All good things come to an end, I guess. My other favorite - the Evo is also dying slowly.
