I origanally was looking at a 92' NSX and I had passed by the local Honda dealership and spotted a beautiful black s2000. I stopped there just to look at it in person since I had never seen one in person but only in magazine reviews. My first thought was that pictures don't justify it's looks and the front end really caught my eye.
Well, I knew the salespersons at the dealership and they came out and we started chatting. This was back in early 2000 and was only the second s2k that they had. They told me that no one was allowed a test drive without a down-payment so the most I could do was to sit in it and check it out. 30 minutes befor the dealership was about to close, the manager came out and told me that I could start it up and move it inside. I was like "HAND ME THE KEYS!!" The manager went in to get the keys and when he came back out, he says that I'm in for a treat and will let me take it for a spin! But on one condition. That he has to go with me so he could test drive it as well.
I put the key into the ignition, turned the key, pushed in the clutch, and pressed the "Red button" and off we went!
All I can say is that when I got back, there was a large grin stuck on my face. I felt the stiffness of the chassis, the slick 6-speed trans, the sound of the sweet exhaust note, and was sunk into the supportive leather seats.
I didn't get a chance to feel the VTEC, but I felt so connected to the car that I knew it would be quick. Next thing, I was in an office signing papers and now I'm here with not a single regret buying the s2k over the NSX.
A RWD 2 seater Roadster with a 6 speed, 240 hp, 9k redline, Go-Kart Handling, Awesome Brakes, Clean beautiful lines, helps me escape reality, stress relieving, competitive sport car, that always puts a smile on my face! It was absolutly worth $35,000
I saw the first ones but I wasn't a copnvertible buff and the original colors weren't my faves. Then my wife wanted me to get rid of my CRX and I looked at the S2000 as they were available in yellow. I couldn't test drive one and the plastic rear window turned me off.
Then we needed another car this year and my wife has always wanted a convertible so we were able to test drive one and decided to go for it. And I like Hondas (my other family members have Hondas only)and our local dealer's service dept. Actually, we bought an AutoArt yellow S2000 die cast and after staring at it for days on end I decided to go for it. We both are very happy that we did.
My brother-in-law had a white/black 2000 and let me drive it. 2 seats, top down, power, and 5-speed--I was envious. A couple months later, after I'd graduated and had a job, I saw one for sale and had to have one. It had been repainted metallic lime, rather gross, but it was still the same 2000. The new wife and I loved it! After almost a year, we got orders to Alaska, and sold it--that was 30 years ago.
My last sports car was a 300ZX, sold in '89. I had no idea the S2000 existed, when I had my Caravan at the local Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep-Honda dealer for a recall. While waiting, I saw a white/red S2000 on the show room floor. The "2000" caught my eye, remembering my '68 Datsun. The salesman gave me the brochure. I sat in it. Hmmmm.
The wife had just expressed an interest in the new T-bird, so I felt the timing was right for "roadster fever." I took her to see it. We wanted blue, so didn't even bother to drive it, and asked the dealer to find us a blue. On the Internet, I read a couple comparisons which the S2000 won, impressively. I found s2ki.com! I was sold. My dealer called back a week later to say he couldn't get a blue. I sent out several requests for price quotes specifying "blue only," and called every dealer I could find in a 300 mile radius. I finally got a call another week later from a dealer with an "inbound Suzuka blue." The next day I had money down, first in line for "my" car. This dealer had a '01 Silverstone/black, which he insisted we test drive. "Make sure you take it over 7000 RPM," he insisted. And then the wait.... in two days, my S2K will be one month old.
Where it started (not mine, but an almost identical twin):
In January, I was minding my own business, flipping through the newspaper one morning. On the front page of the auto section was a picture of the Pontiac Solstice -- a concept car that GM introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. This was the first car that I ever had to have if you know what I mean. I spent the next several weeks digging for every bit of information I could find on the car. I even sent e-mails to Bob Lutz at GM (never got any responses). I started to realize that it was going to be at least 2-3 years, if ever, before GM would produce the Solstice, but now I was hooked and needed to find a roadster. It didn't take long to realize that the S2000 was the best choice. I spent a little time trying to decide if I really wanted to spend the money and then even more time agonizing over blue vs silver. I've had my blue for a little over a month now, and absolutely love this car.
My wife had been asking for a convertible for many years. I told her that we could only get one if it was a Honda. In November, 1999 she called a Honda dealer and learned that they had an S2000 available. It had been reserved for someone else who was unable to get an auto loan. The dealer offered to sell it to her for $1500 over MSRP, so she bought it.
