if the driver knows the car, and knows exactly what area of the gauge means what, then it could be upside down and wouldnt matter.
This is a race car thing. In a street car, yeah, it doesn't really matter. In a race car, it's a valuable trick to use.

Not really. When you have three or four gauges in a row, and you are glancing at them once per lap during the longest straight on the track, you don't want to have to do anything more complicated than notice they are all pointed in the right place.

A lot of "tuners" do it just for looks (as is the case in this picture) but it's a good practice to use when you need to check multiple gauges at a glance. If everything is pointed approx vertical you don't have to look at what the gauges say at all.

I used to have several gauges in a row with a black pin strip across the faces. If I couldn't see the light from the needles then everything was in the desired range. Old drag racing trick my dad taught me. Don't even have to look but just out of the corner of your eye.

Anyone has an DIY to turn the OEM rpm gauge ?!
1) Accelerate to about 85 mph.
2) Turn hard right.
3) Hit the brakes.
Your gauge will be quickly turned to a new orientation.

Incidentally, it should be noted that on the AP1 (read: original) tach, the VTEC crossover point (6000 RPM) is located squarely at 12 o'clock on the tach. So.... keep the yellow bar to the RIGHT of center, and you're good to go .
