Why Do The S02's Burn Up So Quickly?
I've got around 23,500 miles on mine now... although the insides are pretty bald. I drive the car pretty hard too. How hard do you drive your car? I VTEC all the time and hit triple digits everytime I drive it.
Fact is...I might take a quick corner once in a while, but that's it. I never abuse the car and actually baby it. I could probably count on my fingers the number of times I've even VTECed it.
Cornering is what wears down the tires. The rubber is soft so it doesn't last long. I don't know how you could get 23,000 miles on a set of rear OEM S-02's unless you have a lot of highway miles and don't take corners very fast. Even then it would be tough.
I've never done a burnout and my rear tires didn't even last half that long. I also had quite a few highway miles. Are you talking about the OEM replacement S-02's or the other variety of S-02's that were available?

Burnouts you say? My tires haven't so much as squeeked. I'm tellin' you I don't abuse the car, yet at 7,700 miles I don't have a lot of tread left. These tires corner well, but I'm not sure they are worth the price at such low mileage. I might have to sacrifice some performance, but I got to get more mileage out of a set of tires...this is ridiculous.
I just wanted to note that I got 20,500 miles out of the rear S02's. I could have gone another couple of thousand miles on them but I didn't want to run them completely bald. As for the fronts, I'm at 24,000 miles now and no sign of wear yet.
