Default Why do side strakes take 3 hours to put on?

I bought my 04 s2k last week with oem front lip and side strakes. I made an appointment to get them installed tomorrow. They said that it would take 3 hours to install just the side strakes. Does someone know why it takes so long?

Look at these instructions. Might be the reason...

Yeah the install on the side strakes is insane. I think that you could suspend the car by the side strakes if needed.

Did they say it takes that long to install or to leave your car for that long?

You might be surprised at how easily those things can fall off. Mind you, the ones I've seen that have fallen off may be the result of shoddy installation where short cuts were taken and the proper alignment was never done. Even done correctly, the mounting system is not a strong point. Considering that each one requires 2 holes be drilled in your car, they aren't held on real well.

As for taking 3 hours, I think this depends on whether or not the tech has done it before or if it is his first one (or if he takes short cuts that could result in one of them falling off sooner or later). I did mine in my own garage with hand tools and it took me over 2 hours. It requires the wheels to be removed and some stock pieces removed, peeled back and cut, then replaced. If I were to do another set and had a lift, I suppose I could do it in an hour. This would not count getting all the tools laid out and then cleaning and putting them away after.
