Default Why does my car feel so slippery? UPDATE: FIXED!

So I'm a new owner of a 2000 S2000 and everything seems good with it so far. One thing that bothers me is that it feels very slippery, most notable, on the freeway. It DOES have some 18" Axis Reverbs (dropped on Skunk2s) that the owner left on the car. And since I've never really driven a car with 18's much less a sports car RWD I have no idea if this is normal or not. It's hard to explain the feeling but everytime I hit like an indentation or uneven pavement the car seems to turn into it. So a freeway with alot of uneven surfaces will make my car go all over the place. Sometimes, even on a smooth paved surface the car still feels a little slippery; I feel like if I were to turn the wheel suddenly I'd lose control. The car does need a slight alignment might I add but no sure if it has something to do with it. Nevertheless, is there something that can be done to remedy the problem?

Perhaps this is normal and I'm just a really huge noob at RWD cars with big wheels but just thought I'd ask.

Sounds like bumpsteer. There are a few anti bump steer kits out there that will replace the rear trailing arm. Megan makes a decent inexpensive one or TC Design makes a really nice one (only consider the street version...the race version is NOT for the street). You may need to play with the number of shims used to fit your extreme drop. If you get the TC Design BSK they can give advice on how to set it up for your ride height.

But...also have the car aligned to make sure there is not a bunch of toe out on either end. And tell us what size and brand/model of tire you have on the car.

I gotta speculate that between the springs, alignment and wheels/tires, your car's setup is basically fubared. If possible, I'd suggest going back to OEM and starting from there.

Also, I think I should add, it has 100k miles. The guy I bought it from barely put the wheels around December, so they're fairly new. I'm wondering if maybe he got them put on at the wheel shop but there may have not been any adjustments done after they were put on.

Lowered without an alignment? Look for excessive inside tread wear. Slippery make me think you are sliding around. Your discription sounds like the car wanders and doesn't track straight. Which is it? Alignment and correct tire pressure should fix wandering.

I just bought the car (bought it dropped with wheels). I have no clue if there was an alignment done when the wheels were put on or any other adjustments for that matter. I'll double check the tire pressure and Im gonna try and get an alignment soon. But yeah, basically, the car does seem to wander and doesnt stay straight especially on uneven pavement.

Lowered cars get bumpsteer (when the vertical movement of the wheels causes toe in/out) due to the change in suspension geometry.

Alignment, and if that doesn't fix it, then a bumpsteer kit may be required if you want to keep the car lowered and want to get rid of the excessive bumpsteer.
