Let the air out of your tires and fill them up with helium, just make sure to tie a string on your car so it doesn't float away!

Be very careful about following Speed 2000's advice. Make sure the what was sold to you as Helium does not include Deuterium and Tritium, or risk a minor thermonuclear event should you drive your lightened S2000 on a hot day.

Bad for the rims!

Annie and I weighed our first S2000 at an SCCA event last year and it came in at 2697. This was without the spare tire, but with 225/50/16 front and 265/45/16 rear Kumhos which are probably heavier than the stock S02s.

We haven't weighed the new one yet, but probably will in about 4 weeks when we take it to the San Diego National Tour.

Typically most cars are lighter than the published weights. Annie previously had an Integra Type R and I think it came in at 2555. Of course this was with a big amp and aftermarket speakers. Another one weighed in at 2480.

All in all, for how structurally stiff the S2000 is, I think they did very well with the weight. Would I have preferred to save 30 - 50 pounds with no power top? If you'd asked me before we got the car, I'd say yes. Now I'm not so sure. It's just like power windows. Once you've had them it's hard to live without them!

Well to get serious why does an S2000 weigh so much ?
Well I have an S2000 rebuilt from a shell so have seen where the weight is.
The basic shell is quite light 2 man lift to move it in a workshop which must make it 100Kg - 150Kg we did not weigh it
The doors are incredibly heavy with 2 side impact protectors and an inner skin, much weight can be lost here. Remove the glass aswell.
The subframes are massive and must weight together more than the shell totally over engineered, the powered steering rack must weigh 25Kg I tried to pick it up.
Bought a hardtop (did you know you can buy the hardtop shell only for

Another reason is the target retail price the designers were shooting for. If I remember correctly from an early article about the NSX, there are some compenents in the Acura NSX that are aluminum and cost twenty times (20x)their corresponding steel equivalent for that one part.

You can almost always figure out how to shave weight given more money, and Honda wanted to give us a roadster in the low $30k range.

Seems that it is very intensive to put the parts on the hardtop, I saw the microfish parts layout must be a 100 parts to the hardtop. All little components apart from the glass
