Weren't they the originators of synthetic? If so, everything else becomes generic. Beyer vs. acetisalicylic acid. Which would you choose if you had a choice?
The first time i had heard of Mobil 1 was in the late 70s. It was like $7.00 qt. I was going to put it in my Trans Am, when i saw the price i decided that i wouldnt. Dont know if that was the first synthetic but it was around in 1978-79

Chevron Supreme 10W-30. It scores very well in testing and I've had no reason not to like it since I began using it (25k miles ago). I use a Honda PCX filter.

My current opinion on this is to go to an auto parts store, or wherever you can buy discount synthetic, and buy whatever is on sale (I look at the "oil journals" on this website and to decide which oils I would prefer). Honda doesn't specify synthetic for our car, so I dont think it's absolutely necessary, they're not going to specify something that would damage the car. So I figure putting in whatever synthetic is on sale is going beyond the requirement. I feel that going from dino to synthetic is a bigger jump than going from one synthetic to another. But I do have to say that for some reason, I feel most comfortable with Mobil 1, I guess it's familiarity.
