Default Why wait only 600 miles before hitting VTEC?

I always thought the general rule with any car was to give it at least 1000 miles before winding the engine out

According to the S2000 '04 manual, 600 miles is the recommended break in limit.

Other cars I have driven were 1000 miles as well...so I guess the S is a quick learner.

It dont really take long for the valves to seat properly.....600 is actually a bit long for a N/A engine. It was about the same on my Celica GT-s too. Now on a turbo, it is 3K miles....that sux!!!

I waited until 1022 miles on MY03.

I kept it below 4000 rpm during that time. (Factory allows 5000 rpm)

I don't have any proof weather my "over kill" break in style helped any but I figured it couldn't hurt. BTW, My car kills my friends MY01 from both a dead stop and a roll. He vtec'd the second he drove off the dealership. So it is quite possible there may be slight difference in HP (maybe 2-5 whp) just from break in styles. That

This guy, and virtually every other engineer I know uses a similar approach -- and we are probably making more horsepower than you.
