Why wait only 600 miles before hitting VTEC?

I need more than anecdotal evidence before trusting some bonehead's advice in lieu of Honda and all the engineers and huge budgets employed by Honda to design, build, and test these engines.
I'm not about to read something written by an engineer who had nothing to do with the design or manufacturing of this special engine.
I see, so the 600 mile mark that Honda recommends for the S2000, which is coincidentally the same mark for virtually every other engine out there from every other manufacturer is somehow magically and specially designed for the F20C?

As an engineer, show me the facts.
Tear down some motors. I have seen the heads off of numerous motors using both approaches, ranging from aircraft to cars and motorcycles. Every single motor broken in according to the book has been in worse shape earlier.

I do know that I feel sorry for the person who buys your S from you since you seemed to abuse it right from the get go.
Again, you have an opinion based no understanding as to the mechanics of how an engine works, simply a statement in the booklet. You are more than likely guilty of abusing your engine in other ways without even realizing it

Easy solution:

If you want max power, break it in hard.

If you want max life, break it in easy.

^-- Agree.

Do you plan on having the car for 150k+ miles?? if so, PLEASE.. Break it is EVER SO SLOWLY..

Me? Bah-- I roll through cars so fast, I want MAX performance ASAP.

Faster Breakin = Faster Break "out", but more performance, short engine life.

Slower Breakin = Slower Break "out", but less performance, longer engine life.

For me, at least.. I drive my cars from day-1 like I indend to drive them at day 180.

Besides, if (it could happen??) that you reallllly screwed up the engine, it would be under warranty. I 'believe' honda wants you to break it in slow so it breaks 'out' slow and "lasts"... Screw that. I never intend on having a "pretty fast" S2K @ 100k miles... I want a "Very quick" S2K at 20k miles... cuz at 35k.. I can gurantee you its gone.

How do you know that the condition of these motors had anything to do with the break-in procedure? I'm assuming that these numerous torn down motors all had more than a few hundred miles on it, which means the shape the engine's may have more to do with post-break-in driving behavior and maintenance than what was done in the first thirty minutes of the engine's life.

I do not know of any compelling evidence either way; I'm not sure if it really matters much either, there only seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence (i.e. "I have seen..." or "I read that...").

Well-- I think Honda really uses the 600mile thing to factor everythign BESIDES The freaking engine.

Consider the tranny and gears breaking in... consider getting all the 'crap' off the wheels, and oils left over, etc.. and the edges of the tires, which are slick until they get worn some...

Don't forget about the diff... water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, who knows...

NOT to mention, probably the biggest reason they wan't you to wait 600 miles before getting on it: They probably want you to take your time and get used to the freaking car before you drive it off a cliff :-)
