Default The Wicked S2K Diaries

I got my brand spanking-new MY'02 black/black S2000 on Saturday morning.

It arrived from Honda Cars of Boston via Dependable Auto Shippers - absolutely stellar service from both companies.

She was a bit dirty from the trip, but not too bad considering the weather in Boston when she was picked up from the dealer. I started her up and she had 13 miles on the odometer. Truly brand-new!!

Saturday afternoon was spent washing, Zaino'ing, and replacing the side markers with JDM clears from Rick. There are a couple of really minor light scratches from yahoos in the showroom (at least that's my take on where they came from), but nothing major.

Issue: there are serious water spots on the paint from somewhere prior to her arrival in Cali (could it be salt/water mix from snowy street yuck in Boston?). Looks like it will have to be buffed out, vinegar didn't work, nor did tar & bug remover, or swirl remover.

Monday, I took her to get her smog check (required in Cali), and the technician decided to lean against the driver's door with his Levi's jacket with nice metal buttons. I saw these scratches after I left the gas station, while I was sitting at the DMV waiting for inspection and registration.

I went back to the gas station and showed them the scratches, hoping to at least get some help to pay for buffing them out. The owner is a real a$$hole and just started yelling at me for accusing them of damaging my car. I lobbied both him and the technician for about 15 minutes and finally gave up. It's not worth my time, it just makes me mad that the car was ONE DAY old and it already has 2 nice scratches right by the driver's door handle - where I have to look at it every time I open the door.

Issue: Not being able to VTEC is HORRIBLE. It takes so much concentration and willpower to shift at 5500 rpm!!!

But, after 4 days, I've got 250 miles on her already, so the break-in period is almost halfway over.

Stay tuned for more on this same bat channel.

Here's a link to my photos of Saturday. I haven't taken any photos since I put the JDM clear side markers on, so that's already different.

If you have a bottle of Dom, there is NO better reason to drink it than the day you get your very own S2000.

Today's dilemma:

I wake up and it's just pouring rain outside. I just washed Wicked yesterday. I hem and haw and finally decide to drive the Accord.

As I'm walking out the door, I look up and realize that it's stopped raining and I can see blue sky coming.

I stand there and think, WTF am I thinking? Who cares if it's wet or even raining outside - would I rather drive the S or the Accord???

After all, this is my DAILY DRIVER now!

I'm glad I was able to make the right decision.

Who cares if its raining? I just drove it today on sheer ice. I had to start out in 4th gear before I could get going anywhere on this one hill I was stuck on... and thats with expensive winter tires.

But its worth it, I couldn't betray my baby and drive a different car

Wow, that's impressive! As a native Coloradoan, I can confidently say that winter sucks. Good luck with the OTHER crazy drivers and hopefully no one will slide into your baby. I always remember that being the scary part of the icy roads when I was living in Colorado.
