I know what he is trying to do, I just wouldn't take the chance. The reason for my comment was, i don't think he's really hurting for money that bad especially if the car was paid cash. hmmm...

Clearly think about your own priorities. Perhaps write them down. Then make a decision. Presume from the beginning you cannot ever change the behavior of another person.

I'm sorry about your frustration. You set yourself up for disaster by buying her a car, failing to get comprehensive and collision insurance, and then not accepting that sooner or later stuff would happen. The insurance is unnecessary, but only if you could accept the fact that when an inevitable accident would happen, you'd have to pay out of pocket. Thinking that you could skimp on the insurance and still avoid mishaps is magical thinking.
