Maybe my original question has more to do with how happy I'll be with an S.

I didn't want it to come to this but:
Should I buy an S2000?

Come on guys who've had all the latest sports cars, give me some feedback?
I honestly like my S2000 better than my Z06. The Z06 is faster, and handles VERY well, but there is just something about the S....

I don't understand how come everyone doesn't want one.

Maybe I'm being wooed by the idea of owning an S but I know what you mean.

I think the problem with the Miata was that it was too far from my expectations of comfort/refinement and showed a little bit of it's econ-car roots.

The beauty of the S is it fullfills these expectations while also having the best seats, shifter, engine sounds/verve, handling precision, and looks better than all those who copied it . . . Viper, C6, even the new 911 (check out the hood shape)

I'd rather just have the original which looks better anyway.

No, because it sounds like you want a car that excels at things that the S doesn't do well. I'd say get a GTO. Big, fat cars with sloppy suspensions (although the GTO suspension isn't completely deplorable) and lots of torque are perfect for the type of driving that you're talking about. If you want to smoke the tires at every stop light and fishtail around every corner, then the S2000 is not the best choice. It can do those things, but it's much better designed for keeping all 4 wheels within their "circle of traction". But if you buy something like a GTO or another Cobra even, I wouldn't recommend taking it to a road course, because you'll be annoyed when you're powersliding around a corner and that lil 4-banger S2000 is stuck to the track like glue and sucking you up from behind.

Well here is my .02 cents but I sold my 99 Cobra that I supercharged and bought an S. I loved the S handled gret was fun but I have now sold my S and bought another mustang because I really missed the sound of the V8 muscle and the torque. I am sure people are going to say you are not the right type of person to own an S and I guess that is correct but just make sure you wont miss the sound and the torque. I could drift the S around turns but it does take more speed and more aggression than doing it in the Cobra. Again just my .02.

Will you be driving mostly on back roads or mostly on expressways? Do the cities where you live have roomy middle American rectangular layouts, or crowded irregular layouts?

It it's cities with crowded layouts and back roads, the S2000 is probably the better car. If it's roomy rectangular cities and lots of expressways, something from Detroit might be better.

Amen. A mustang, 93+ with a borla cat-back -- or better yet an X-pipe sounds fantastic.

It certainly will in the snow! I did a nice snap 180 in the parking lot yesterday (intentionally) and scared the crap out of my kid. Oops, bad example, dad

There are few exhaust sounds I like better than the rumble of a V8. Only cars I can think of off the top of my head that sound better to me are Ferraris and Porsches.

Unfortunately, my I4 sounds like a swarm of angry bumblebees... but it gets the job done just the same.
