Will a few grinds from mishift damage tranny?
I let a friend drive my S today (after I test drover his new Z) but the gears grinded while he shifted from 1st to 2nd. It sounded harsh but I also have done this on my previous civic without any major concerns. But the tranny on the S seems to wear n tear easier. So should I be worried that damage was done to tranny.

First off, don't EVER let this friend drive your S again. Secondly, it all depends on how frequent he ground the gears. I'd keep an eye and ear open down the road for any problems. I con't understand how he ground the gears since the S is so easy to shift.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. It is definitely not something you want to be doing often; however, I'm sure the tranny can take some abuse. At least I hope so because I've grinded 1 to 2 a number of times but it was only because I was being stupid and letting out the clutch just a little too soon. Gosh I hate that noise so much. It makes my stomach feel queasy.

ok i thought it was no biggie to grind once in awhile but then on the freeway one day i did a HUGE misshift (stupid me). i went from 6-2 *ouch* i then caught the misshift and tried to push it back into fifth. worst grid i ever heard in my life. turned out i busted my 5th gear synchro. the gear was locked out. i took it to the dealer and luckily they actually replaced it for me for free under warranty. had to take my entire tranny out to replace the part. what a nightmare. basically the point of the story is, it could happen.
