Thumbs up Will I be able to sell a used clutch?

Hey guys - I bought an s2000 that came with an Exedy HyperSingle, and it's been on the car about 10k miles, with no track use or anything. Anyways, the clutch is extremely difficult to use - I don't have a problems with it (it modulates pretty well), but I'm getting tired of it and it's annoying in traffic. The main issue is that nobody else can drive my car if it was needed!

so, I have the money for an OEM clutch, and I am tempted to make the switch (maybe not OEM, but an OEM friction disc at least!). However, I don't really need to be spending all that money on labor, and I would hope my $1.5k exedy clutch could recouperate at least a little of that!

So, the question - what is a typical labor cost for the clutch, and, MORE importantly...

Would anybody even buy my used Exedy / what's a low estimate of what I would get for it?

(PS - this is my first post, hope it's in the right section)

It can take a professional a whole business day's labour to change a clutch. That can be translated into anywhere from 8 to 10 hours. People have been known to blow clutches in an S2000 in well under 10K miles. The fact that you have that much on yours and have no track time, is not necessarily a selling point. The Exedy product is well known among S2000 owners as being an "undesireable" clutch for street use. You "might" be able to sell it to someone who is building up a car for drag strip use. And if you do find someone like this, he may not want to pay you much for what could turn out to be a very used part. Only once you've gotten it out and can show the condition of it, can you truly set a price on it and that's assuming you find someone who really wants it. If noone wants it, it's worth next to nothing.
Clutches are not the kind of product that most people buy used.

Haha you most likely could sell it in the market place, guys buy stuff like vultures in there sometimes like no matter what or how used... just be totally honest and accurate in all aspects of the item your selling, include all details ^^

8-10 hours for a clutch?!.. No way.

Someone is really dragging their tail if it takes that long.

Remove it, take a caliper to it, you'll be able to find out how much friction material is left on it. In 10k miles, there should be -lots-. My Prelude is at 202,xxxkm, Civic is at 247,000km, both are still on their original factory clutches, both have very few highway kms...

Now, it IS a wear item so you cannot expect to get a lot for it, but it's likely sellable.

Yes, way! Have you done one? Or are you just comparing how long it takes to do a clutch on a Prelude and Civic? Do you know what's involved in doing an S2000 clutch?
A local S2000 went in for the clutch decel buzz TSB. They had the car for a whole business day and then some. Guys who have done S2000 clutches on a regular basis can probably do it in less time, but most Honda dealers and shops have never touched an S2000. It takes them that long.

Wouldn't buy a used clutch unless it was a serious 6 puck etc. or if I enjoyed changing clutches in my free time. That being said...

You can sell it for something, but in most cases it's a hard sell.
