Will modding s2000 reduce hp?
Depends on what parts you buy... I've heard many people say that a DC Header will make u lose power. Browse around the forums and lookup the basic mods like an intake, FlashPro( 06+ ), test pipe and exhaust. It took me 5 months to search for the right exhaust I wanted, so do your research.
There are numerous products that will provide improvements in both performance and handling. The S2000 is awesome out of the box as you know. But Honda engineers, as with all engineers, had to make some trade offs. HP comes with costs both price and reliability. This board can provide you great guidance in improving and maintaining the car. As to exhausts (?) there are many choices many making power. Do some searches. Frankly if you Google S2000 exhaust you will find a "Definitve Exhaust Thread" right here on S2Ki.
Note: The stock ECM can maintain a proper 14:1 air/fuel ratio with a broad range of inflows and outflows. While an an EMS and tune may help it is not needed for basic intake and exhaust upgrades.

P.S. Searches also point here for any other mod you can think of (I.e. Header, Test Pipe, High Flow Cat (HFC)).

Research s2ki to find out what products prove hp gains. A aftermarket ems and tune is necessary

Depends on the mods. The stock ECU can maintain a 14:1 (proper air fuel stoichometry) over a wide range of inflows and outflows; forced induction excepted.

14:1 is not a target in Closed Loop. The ECU does not use feedback at WOT which it where modding plays it's role for the majority.
Utah is correct, at least regarding an AP1. Pre-06' S's do not need tuned for intake and exhaust upgrades and/or power increases. It could help marginally, but isn't necessary. At most buy an 02/03' ECU and you'll be fine. My 02' has a custom-fabricated exhaust (header back) and modified OEM intake (with ZERO heat soak BTW
) and has no issues at all. I dyno'd 211whp with my current setup. The stock ECU provides the engine's fueling needs all the way to the fuel cut.

^ This. "Perfect" is subjective. If your goals aren't in line with what Honda did then odds are you won't find the S to be "perfect". If you do then it probably is. You need to clarify what you're attempting to achieve and what mods you're looking at. Your question is really too vague and broad for a one-size-fits-all answer.

if your looking for more HP every mod on the s2000 is a waist of time and money unless it involves some kind of forced induction. (turbo, supercharger or noz)

^THIS.
Spending a ton of money to get 10-20 peak horses is just wasting time and money. You may convince yourself its night and day, but the objective performance gains will be in the margin of error.
I'm boosted 5psi, and added over 120whp. THAT is a difference. 10 is not.
