This was a popular topic several years ago. Several people removed theirs to find less than perfect paint under the tape. Just an FYI for anyone thinking of doing this.

I was lucky that mine turn out perfect. just from glue left behind. After removing I give the entire car a good buffing and it look like new.

mine is 2007

It's there because the car looks hideous when it's off and the soft top is up.
I'm with you....

I'm not a fan of taking the tape off.... It makes the car look less aggressive.

I'm with the minority on this one and just don't agree with it.

....unless you have a hardtop and would like to match the hardtop with the windshield frame.

It's going to be a real pain if you're thinking about removing it now.
FWIW, I just removed the tape from my 2005. It came off pretty easily, though I had to be patient and peel it off very slowly. Sticky residue was only left in two small spots (at the corners), and didn't take me longer than 10 minutes of rubbing with my finger to remove. All in all, maybe 20 minutes of work. I did this in a cold cement parking garage. Not sure if it would have been easier/harder if the tape (and glue) were warmed under the sun.

Many years ago when this was discussed one of the ideas was that when the hardtops came out for our cars (Honda introduced them in 2001) the dealer would pull the tape off when they installed the new top. The thought was to make even more of an impact when the top was put on by matching the windshield frame to it.
This is just speculation at this point as I no longer have a source.
