Question Window motor replacement?

Hey, so after a good night of celebrating one of my friends birthdays and driving home with the top down, I finally get home.

Anyways, i pulled into my driveway and put the top up then closed my radio door, you know, the usual spill.

Well i open my drivers door and while im putting my windows up, a dime falls out of my pocket and hits the concrete.

We'll the dime made an even louder thud sound than i had expected, so i looked around on the ground to see what had fallen out of my pocket. I didnt see anything out of the ordinary except for a dime on the ground.

Well....

i looked back up and my driver's side window is gone. GONE!!

so as any pissed off person is when their window comes off track when they have to work the next morning and its supposed to rain all day long, i decided to pull it in the garage and take a look.

I went into this thinking it could be fixed with a simple "pull the panel off and re-align the window"

NO.

it cant.

i started looking and the braided metal tension line that rolls the window up and down had snapped.

is this a normal issue with these cars or did i just get lucky enough to have this happen?

im taking and dropping my car off at honda on friday since im going out of town for the weekend and hoping they can have it fixed by sunday night.

so i guess my question is, what parts is this going to require being replaced?
can they just replace this tension line or is it part of the motor assembly?
anyone have any idea what this could cost?

Car is a 2003 with only 50k on it.

Moral of the story... This sucks.

They are going to quote you 1 hour diagnostics to start. You will have to replace the window regulator assembly, list price is 261.86. I'm guessing they will charge you about 1.5 labor to install the new regulator. So total labor will be 2.5 hours at 105 an hour(im guessing since this is how much we charge), plus 261.86 in parts. 524.36 not including tax. This should be in the ball park of how much you're looking at. I suggest you drop off your car before friday, in the morning, in case they dont have the regulator in stock so they can order it. If you drop it off on friday and they have to order the part it will probably not come in until the following monday.

Head to Ace Hardware (or TrueValue, Home Depot, Lowes, whatever) and get a guy wire splice in the appropriate size. Wrap the splice in electrical tape or shrink tube.

Not a common problem that I've heard of.

If you end up looking for a used regulator you can try www.car-parts.com.

He said it was the metal tension cable that broke, not an electrical wire.
