I'd noticed a lot of small pock marks after
25000 mi... Perhaps it is related to just a
little too much time spent at high speed.
Annoying with the wrong angle of light at
night or during the day...

Got a nice, decent size chip too - from the
tire of a Lotus Esprit V8. So that wasn't so
bad... A battle scar and story...

Well, I apparently also got a little chip that
was sharp. Only I didn't notice it. It was right
below the black-out on the bottom edge of
the windshield. It decided yesterday to develop
into a crack. Now that crack has grown six
inches overnight. Heck, it grew an inch on the
way to work.

So, my question (finally, you're saying). Where
should I go to get this damned piece of glass
replaced? Any experience? A Dealer thing or
somewhere else? Ideas of cost? Thanks to
everyone.

I've got bad luck with this car... Anyone want to
buy a used silver S2000 with 25000 miles?

My understanding is that most dealers just send the car to a windshield specialist. I'd suggest finding out who the dealer uses and going directly to them, which would probably cost you less. By using the dealer's contractor, you'd at least know they're competent.

Some of these glass guys will even come out with a trunk and do the work at your home or office.

I did a search on windshield replacement and found a thread from a while back:

thanks for the responses. I'll definitely call the dealer
and ask who they use/recommend. Thanks. Have I
said how much I love this car and this board?

In some states, your insurance company has to pay for the windshield to be replaced at no cost to you. May be worth a call.

My windshield was replaced and my insurance paid for it, but minus my deductible. They were going to use a generic PPG windshield, but I insisted, because of the semi-rare nature of the car, that I wanted the factory windshield with the "H" emblem on it. They had no problem with that. I took it to my dealer, but they sublet it to someone who specializes in replacing windshields. That may be the only way you can get factory glass.

That old thread on the windshield was started by me. I just had mine replaced early last week. I originally wanted a mobile service done at my work but the owner insisted that I bring the car into the shop since they can do a better job. And they did an excellent job.

In fact, the most difficult thing was not the windshield itself, but the rear view mirror! It took them nearly 45 minutes to reinstall it.

I had it done free since insurance companies in South Carolina are required to pay it.

I would call and and ask around for the best shops. They're not all the same.

Well, I've already gotten a WIDE range of quotes on this.
From $410 to $680. And one of the nice folks I spoke
with said the windshield list price was $1100.

Unfortunately, according to the people I spoke with,
insurance companies in MD are NOT required to
replace the windshield free of cost to the insured.
And my deductible is more than the cost of the
replacement, so...

Any more insight is greatly appreciated (if there is
really any more to be had)

Thanks again. I'll let you know how/where this goes.

Sorry to hear that, but that EXACT same thing happened to my Civics 3-4 years ago! The crack ended up speading all the way to the top of my windsheild. Since it's on the passenger side I didn't even bother replacing the windshield (and it does continue to pass annual inspections). I do admit if the same things happened in my S2000 (but I hope it doesn't anytime soon) I would be more inclined to replace the windshield.
