Default windshield pitting

I have a 2001 spa yellow with less than 6k miles. I washed it yesterday and have noticed really bad pit/chip marks all over the windshield. I really don't know how they got there. I don't drive much on the interstate and when I do, I don't tailgate. Are there any tree drippings that can pit a windshield? Does anyone know how or if I can get them out. Needless to say, it has ruined my whole week.

Thanks

Yeah, this is just the nature of our windshields. There have been a couple discussions about 3rd party replacements that are made of harder material. Some have chosen to use those when replacing after getting hit by a rock. Do a search, you'll find some good stuff.

I wonder if some of the windshields were "lemons". This doesn't seem to happen to everybody, and hasn't happened to me. I have the same low-key driving habits (no tailgating, stay the hell away from the back of trucks) and I have zero pits in my windshield after 6700 miles. WTF?

There are some kits that allow you to remove scratches from glass watch crystals. Anybody know if they could be used on windshields?

I have about 4500 miles, and not a single pit on my windshield either...I don't tailgate and I try to avoid staying close to trucks as well.

I live just outside of Charlotte, and if you know anything about our area, you'll know that the traffic is pretty bad.

I was close to Charlotte for the S2kDays '01 event earlier this year.

If you thought those lazy mountain highways were bad between Asheville and TN, you don't want to venture into Charlotte around 4:30 PM.
