What I heard in reference to Removable Hardtops: The intent was for the tape to be remove by the dealer when the dealer installed the hard top option. This would provide integrity of the color and a little more wow factor when someone ponied up a couple of grand for the future option. The only problem was the hard top took a long time to come out, so the tape on a lot of cars took a fairly hard set. Some of the first installations in Japan resulted in chipped and peeled paint on the A pillars. As such Honda chose not to make this information public.
Mine was about a year old when I removed my tape. It came right off, just don't rush it and wait until it's hot outside, first. IMHO, my car looks much better after the tape was removed.
