I don't understand why they put it there to begin with??
In my opinion the tape is there to create a smoother color transition from the windshield molding into the top. I noticed when I removed mine the car looks very good with the top down, but when the top is up it just stands out a little to much,If I had a hard top it would look great.'01 NFR

It looks especially good with a color matched hard top.
It all makes sense now. I was seeing S2K's with black colored frames around their windsheild that didn't go with the hard top while others had it colored to go with the body color. I thought it was a change they made in newer/older model years. Why do they have tape on it? It looks so much better with it off!

Removing tape isn't exactly rocket science.

However, I removed mine to find that the paint sucked. It didn't have hardly any pearl, was way lighter, and was all scratched up (like someone took sandpaper to it). I had it painted to match but that was kind of a disappointing find.

Alot of people suggest to remove the windshield tape. I have yet to see some type of tape on my windshield, I have searched and even after looking at the pictures I do not know where the windshield tape is. Someone please point to it directly for me.
Here is where it is, still on.

This has been discussed before, I'm sure, but one member mentioned that another reason is because of the abnormally upright position of the windshield. Leaving the area around the windshield black draws less attention to how upright it is. Does anyone know if the S (sans B.Black) overseas come with the tape?

I removed mine right after I got the car. Looks a lot better IMO removed, + I have a HT. Only had a couple bad spots in the paint, but was easily repaired with some rubbing compound.
