Default Winter and a soft top

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes.

I know most of you just winterize your S2ks... but for those of you that don't, is the hardtop an absolute must?

I'm looking at purchasing one, and while it would be garaged during evenings, it would also be outside during the day, etc.

Input / experiences are appreciated as to the soft top durability.

I've had both my 01 and my 07 in the winter with a softtop. There have been no problems. The 01 only went through one winter before it was stolen, so I can't tell you how the plastic window would fare.

My 07 has also been through one winter, but I don't see any issues arising. I take care of the car very well and try not to use the top when it's cold. There has been quite a few inches of snow piled on it so far this year, and it's fine. I just bought a hardtop last week, so when it comes, I'll be using that.

First winter...

Don't have a picture this winter yet.

I spent a full winter, although a mild one, with my 05 here in NJ. No problems whatsoever

A pic of the girlfriend's car below, when she left her car out overnight.
My S parts in the same weather (no garage/no hardtop).

No problems

I have no problems with my soft top, or plastic window, in the winter. Even with no defrost, it's not a problem. The cabin heats up very fast and all the ice on it melts. Just don't put the top down when the temp is below ~40
