Default Winter storage (in driveway in New England)

I'm getting ready to take my S off the road for the winter for the first time. I've read all the posts on this board about this but I haven't seen anything about storing it outside. I only have a 1 car garage and I'm going to use it for my new daily driver (EVO).

Question:
Other than following the procedures for winterizing your car, what else do I have to do for storing it outside during a New England winter in my driveway?

Thanks.

Not to be rude, but why would you store your S outside when you could use your garage?

Agreed. If your Evo is your daily driver and going to be seeing snow and salt anyway, why not leave it outside and put the S in the garage. Makes more sense IMO.

I would not recommend storing your car outside in New England over the winter with or without a cover. Actually, you may do more damage to the paint with a cover on.

How about these options.

See if you can rent one of your neighbors garages.

Look into those storage places, should not cost much more than $75/month.

Contact the Honda dealer, perhaps you can work out some arrangement with them.

Good luck

Just because I'd rather have my daily car right there in the garage which is more convient for me. I don't want to have to brush snow off of it, .... I could go on. Also, I'm getting a brand new hi-pref car (w/ turbo) that will be driven daily so I'd like to keep it garaged.

If keeping it outside is just a good then I'd rather go that path. Of course I'd need an all-weather car cover. Plus my garage is not heated anyways.

I've heard a lot of people say storing your car outside is bad, and I'll have to agree...sort of. Indoor storage is obviously better because it protects your car from the elements. But because I only have a single garage and another car is occupying it, I've been storing my AE86 outside with only an ordinary cover. So far, so good.

WhartRat, if you have no choice I say store your car outside.

Well, if you want to keep your daily driver nice, then it might be better TO leave it outside. When you drive around and get all the salt on the underbody and paint it sticks. Then when you pull it into the garage the salt warms up and activates eating into your metal and causing corrosion. You are probably better off keeping it outside.

As for not brushing off the snow... Get a remote starter installed on the Evo. Get one with a turbo timer. That would help prolong the life of your car because of the turbo timer, and it would be toasty warm when you get up because of the remote start. You may still have to brush some snow off, but you should never have to scrape again.

Good luck.

I'm in a similar boat... My wife's X5 is in the garage, and my S will be in the driveway for most of the winter.. I'm going to invest in a cover... any suggestions?

If I were in your position...I'd definitely go with a storage place. The $50-$75/month you'd spend on a space could potentially save you money in paint damage/vandalism/etc.
