Default Is this worth it?

OK...I've been searching around and after driving it...I am absolutely hooked on the s2000. A local dealer has the following:

*Looks exactly like this: http://images.automotive.com/review_images...0hondas2000.jpg
*He says its a limited edition but I can't seem to find any info about it
*Its a 2000 with less than 2000 miles on it. Its been a dealer's showroom car.
*Being sold as new...still has 36000 mi / 36 mo bumper to bumper warranty

The sticker price is 32K...after talking to him he went down to 24K - bottom line.

Now, not being too familiar with the car itself and its true value (other than blue book), I really want this car...but its more than I wanted to spend. I can afford it - BUT its not like I have an extra 24k just sitting around to spend...so it is going to put me out a little bit.

What does everyone think...is it worth 24K? Should I do it?

Thanks!

If the blue book says it's worth $24k, then for sure it's a good deal. Having ONLY 2000 miles on it is like, almost impossible to find.
Another thing is, for sure that's no Limited Edition, from what I know, nothing like that was ever made. The red interior is more rare than the black interior during the first 2 MY and still is I believe.
Try to make your dealer bring it down another few thousand by saying there's no such LE S2000's out there and that he's lying.

Book on it is about $21,500 - but that doesn't take into account that its still new and still under full warrany.

Thanks for the heads up on the limited edition...hopefully that will buy me a little bargaining power.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Well, with 2000 miles on it, I wouldn't say it's NEW, but it IS in a pretty good condition.
But from what I know, even if it's a dealer/showroom car, it's still considered a used car and you can use that as another point to make them lower the price.

I think $23000 for a 2000 is still pretty good, considering the condition it's in and the warranty you get. If they won't go down with the price, try to get some free accesories from them.

Use http://www.autotrader.com to find similar cars in any area. Then use those prices as negotiating points with the dealership.

Dealer Showroom == Beat to crap by test drivers so use that to bust them down.

Beat them over the head with the fact that they lied about it being LE.

Are they giving you new car financing? If not, then used car financing could cost you a ton.

Unless they come down to at LEAST blue book, walk away. IMHO it would be a lousy deal.

A waranty is great, but keep in mind that Honda seems to deny waranty claims on the face of them as "driver abuse." It is then up to the owner to prove them wrong. My point is that the warranty is not as great a thing as you may think.

Even with more miles on it, you might be better off finding a used 2002. It will have some warranty left, and has a lot of the bugs engineered out that were present in the early cars. It also would come with a glass rear window.

If that car ever left the lot (like to a local car show etc.) then they can't sell it as new by law. I doubt it sat in the showroom and got 2000 miles, so I would bet they took it to a local car show or 2 or 3.

If that is the case, they will sell it as New Used which your paperwork will replect. The paperwork will be sold as used but the vehicle was never previously purchased. I got a truck this way before my S.

I would say you still have some room to bargain. 2000 Miles is not new and sure you still have 3/36000 but minus 2000 so only 3/34000.

Thanks everyone for your help...I'm going to offer 22,500 and see if they bite. If not, I'll look elsewhere. Thanks!

Just another thought.

That car was obviously used for test drives and such. It probably has had more people in it than most other 2000 model cars. All of them poking and prodding, pulling here and there. Not to mention the test drives.

I personally would follow the poster above advice. Find an 02/03 (Even though I have an 01 I like the plastic window as its bigger than the glass and the one thing an S has a problem with is visibility with the top up.). They will still have some warranty and will be just as nice.
